How overworking to “fix your life” is quietly frying your nervous system
There’s a pattern I see all the time with sensitive, mission-led people.
They keep telling themselves:
“I don’t have enough clients yet.”
“I don’t have the team/support/system to step back.”
“I don’t have enough time to rest until this is sorted.”
“I don’t have the capacity for anything to go wrong right now.”
“I don’t have the headspace to make big decisions.”
These are the “Don’t Haves”.
They sound logical. Responsible, even.
But they’re quietly running the show, driving you to keep going, keep fixing, keep pushing.
For some people, that means holding together a life that feels far too full.
For others, it’s holding up a mission, a team, or a cause that depends on them.
Either way, it’s the same result:
You override the exhaustion.
You tell yourself to hang on until things calm down.
But instead of relief, you end up feeling… wired. Emotional. Overwhelmed. Done in.
Why you keep pushing through, even when you’re exhausted
There’s a belief running under all that effort:
“I’ll feel better when I earn more.”
“I’ll rest once the work is done.”
“I just need to get through this week/launch/problem.”
But that’s not how your body works.
If your nervous system is already in overdrive, the goal won’t bring peace, because your system doesn’t trust it’s safe yet.
So you keep striving. Not just because you care, but because your body thinks it has to.
The real reason your nervous system is stuck on high alert
When you’re constantly chasing a result to feel okay, your body never gets a break.
It stays on.
Looking for threats.
Scanning for proof that you’re still not “there” yet.
This is how HSPs burn out, not because they’re lazy or flaky.
But because they’re doing everything while postponing rest, regulation, or relief until some invisible line is crossed.
That’s not resilience.
That’s emotional exhaustion in disguise.
Why regulation matters more than results
You don’t need to change your circumstances to feel safe.
You need to let your system downshift, so it can hold more, with less fear.
You care deeply about the outcome, whether that’s a launch, a cause, or just keeping things afloat. I get it, I am the same.
Regulation isn’t about giving up on those goals.
It’s what helps you actually reach them, without losing yourself in the process.
Because here’s what most people miss:
A regulated system holds more.
More clarity. More capacity. More courage to choose the right next step.
That’s what we do in a Soul Settler Session.
We use tapping to speak directly to your nervous system, helping you quiet the internal pressure so you can make decisions from a grounded, sustainable place.
Emotional Alchemy Ritual
Step 1: Choose a flower essence
Pick the one that resonates today:
• Oak — for pushing through exhaustion and never stopping
• Vervain — for urgency, pressure, and overworking from passion
• Mimulus — for fear around not having enough or being seen
Step 2: Journal on this:
• What have I been chasing — and what am I postponing until I get it?
• What is my body asking for right now that I’ve been overriding?
Step 3: Tapping sequence
Start with the side of your hand, tapping gently and repeating:
“Even though I keep pushing, I accept how I feel.” (Repeat x3)
Then tap through the points:
• Top of head: “I’ve been pushing myself too hard.”
• Eyebrow: “Trying to earn my right to rest.”
• Side of eye: “I thought I had to keep going.”
• Under eye: “Even though I’m tired.”
• Under nose: “Even though my body says pause.”
• Chin: “I’m ready to shift out of this story.”
• Collarbone: “I don’t have to wait to feel safe.”
• Under arm: “I can slow down before the breakthrough.”
• Top of head: “I’m allowed to feel calm now.”
Breathe. Let it land. Tap again if you need to.
